Building America CDE celebrated the groundbreaking of the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center expansion on Tuesday April 10th in Far Rockaway, Queens. The $23.4 million expansion, which will nearly double the size of the existing facility, received an $8 million New Markets Tax Credits allocation from Building America. The Addabbo Family Health Center’s expansion is expected to create approximately 108 new union construction jobs, 31 new permanent jobs, and retain 140 permanent jobs at the facility.
Building America CDE Director Andrea Wong-Miller spoke at the groundbreaking alongside local officials including Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, New York City Councilor Donovan Richards, New York State Senator Joe Addabbo Jr, and New York State Assembly Member Michelle Titus.
“Addabbo has been a cornerstone of the Far Rockaways for over 30 years, and this expansion will allow the organization to improve service delivery and ultimately, quality of life, for those residents who need it most,” said Ms. Wong-Miller. “We extend our biggest thanks to the workers of the New York City Building Trades who will build this expansion, and the Addabbo employees, including our sisters and brothers of 1199SEIU, who take care of this community.”
The project is expected to be complete in 2019 and patient visits are anticipated to increase by 56% annually from a baseline of 62,000 in 2016 to 97,000 in 2024.
